THE LOUIS VUITTON CLASSIC at Rockefeller Center
By the fifth year of the Louis Vuitton Classic at Rockefeller
Center, SP Studios was hired (for the fifth time) to
handle the design and production of virtually all the
visual elements for this international automobile Concours
d'Elegance. Displaying more than 50 of the planet's
most exotic vehicles, the LV Classic drew crowds in
excess of 1.5 million visitors to New York City's famed
Rockefeller Center.

LV CLASSIC: PRESS KIT
With any event, communicating with your potential audience,
visitors or guests is the first step. This printed pocket
folder was used throughout the entire cycle of the event,
from alerting the media to sending information and instructions
to the car owners themselves. It contained cover letters,
save-the-date cards, press releases, photographs and
other documents. (Finished size: 9"x12"; 2-color,
double-strike PMS; varnish, scored, die-cut, glued,
and folded; dull-coated premium stock).

LV CLASSIC: PUBLICITY PHOTOGRAPHS
SP Studios worked from a variety of photo sources
often not professionally shot images and used
digital photo retouching to enhance and format a series
of color publicity photographs. (Finished size: 7"x5";
glossy color prints, suitable for reproduction).

LV CLASSIC: PRINTED PROGRAM
The 52-page printed catalog shown above, includes examples
of Vuitton's commitment to being the leading luxury
goods brand; their historical and current connection
to the leading edge of the automotive and travel industries;
and an exquisite watercolor rendering and written description
of each car in the juried show. Shown above are the
cover and a sample interior spread. (Finished size:
8.5"x11"; Saddle-stitched; 4-color process;
varnish (interior) and film laminate (cover), dull-coated
premium stock).

LV CLASSIC: PRINTED INVITATION
The opening night pre-view and celebration, with Aretha
Franklin performing, needed a very special invitation.
SP Studios designed an oversized, colorful, two-piece
invitation with a printed vellum over-sheet, attached
with a grommet to the upper-left corner of the square
format backing. When the translucent vellum is peeled
back, it reveals the invitation copy. Delivered in a
large square envelope. (Finished size: 8"x8";
white metal grommet; 2-color spot inks; uncoated premium
cover stock and ultra-heavy translucent vellum).

LV CLASSIC: PRINTED INVITATION
SP Studios designed and printed a series of 4 additional
invitations for select groups of VIPs. Car owners, key
media contacts, and sponsor partners were invited to
brunches, dinners and formal receptions. The common
design threads were shape (square), blind embossing,
and color-pallet. (Finished size: 6"x6"; 2-color
spot inks; uncoated premium cover stock).

LV CLASSIC: ACCESS PASSES & CREDENTIALS
SP Studios designed plastic laminated security access
passes worn by members of the crew, staff, car owners,
media and Louis Vuitton employees. (Finished size: 4"x3";
2-color spot inks; coated cover stock with plastic lamination;
die-punched hole with clip-on lanyard).

LV CLASSIC: FLAGS
With 120 nine-foot flags flying around the ice rink
at Rockefeller Center, the image was spectacular! Most
banner companies can produce flags just rare
to have an opportunity to fly so many at one event.

grommets).

LV CLASSIC: PRINTED BROCHURE
With more than a million and a half visitors, there
are bound to be a lot of questions. So, we designed
and printed an information brochure to give-away at
the event. This colorful one-sheet told the story of
the history of Louis Vuittons involvement in travel
from steam ship trunks and early automobile coachworks
to influencing the high-end automotive and travel industries
today. (Finished size: 4"x9"; tumble-fold;
4-color digital process; coated stock).

LV CLASSIC: LIGHTING GOBOS
Let there be light! The lighting designer hired SP Studios
to create black & white and grayscale gobo artwork
for moving light projected on the walls and sidewalks
of Rockefeller Center. The many logos and automotive
motifs were dazzling. (Finished size: (various) digital
files).

LV CLASSIC: OUTDOOR CAR PLAQUES
Each of the 57 vehicles have a unique story to tell
and they each needed a plaque on which to tell
it. SP Studios designed and produced the information
signage for the three-day, outdoor event. (Finished
size: 18"x13"; digital print on transparent
vinyl; mounted on Sintra-backed, brushed metal).

LV CLASSIC: OUTDOOR BANNERS
At Rockefeller Center there are about 106 approved areas
where outdoor banners are permitted. For the Classic,
they appeared everywhere from three-feet wide
on the Fifth Avenue and surrounding street lamp-posts,
to a pair of 21-footers on the front of #30 Rockefeller
Plaza, and many sizes in between. (Finished sizes: various;
3-color sewn nylon; brass grommets).
